Delete Your Account
This page explains how to delete your Companion AI account and the personal data associated with it. Companion AI is operated by the Companion AI Team, based in Germany. If you have any questions, contact us at support@companionsai.org.
Delete your account from within the app
The fastest way to delete your account is directly in the app:
- Open the Companion AI app and make sure you're signed in.
- Tap the menu (⋮) in the top-right of the chat screen, then tap My account.
- Tap More account options.
- Tap Delete account, then confirm.
This permanently deletes your account and signs you out. The action is immediate and cannot be undone.
If you can no longer sign in, email support@companionsai.org from the email address on your account and ask us to delete it. We'll verify your request and delete your account, typically within 30 days.
What gets deleted
Deleting your account permanently removes:
- Your account and profile (name, email, and any "about you" details you added).
- All of your chat messages and conversation history.
- Your AI companion's configuration and saved "memories."
- Your roleplay stories.
- Any images you uploaded (profile pictures, chat backgrounds, and images sent in chat).
- Your device push-notification token.
This data is removed from our live database promptly and purged from routine backups within about 30 days.
What may be retained
We keep a limited amount of data only where the law requires it:
- Subscription and transaction records may be retained for up to 10 years where required by German tax and commercial law (e.g. §147 AO, §257 HGB), even after your account is deleted. Note that cancelling a subscription is handled through your Google Play account and is separate from deleting your Companion AI account.
- Aggregated or anonymized data that can no longer identify you may be retained to operate and improve the service.
Delete your data without deleting your account
If you'd rather wipe your data and start fresh but keep your account, use the in-app Reset option:
- Open the Companion AI app and make sure you're signed in.
- Tap the menu (⋮) in the top-right of the chat screen, then tap My account.
- Tap More account options.
- Tap Reset chat (also labelled "Reset everything"), then confirm.
Reset deletes:
- All of your chat messages and conversation history.
- Your saved "memories" and your roleplay stories.
- Your event reminders.
- Your AI companion's configuration (a fresh default companion is created afterward).
- The personal details in your profile (age, your "about you" text, hobbies, likes and dislikes).
Reset keeps: your account and sign-in (email), your display name, and your subscription.
Deleted data is removed from our live database promptly and purged from routine backups within about 30 days. If you can't access the app, email support@companionsai.org from the email address on your account and tell us what you'd like deleted.
